These webpages are dedicated to my dad, Jerry Servedio, who served in the European theatre of WWII, primarily in west-central Germany, from 1944-45. When he died in 2002, one of the legacies he left was a photo album of his time in Europe during the war. This album of 500+ photos is an excellent window into the past, as my dad took meticulous notes on every photo, describing who, what, where and when on the back of each. I assume he used an old Brownie automatic, as the prints range from 2 1/2 x 2 to 1 inch square minis.
The album has been collecting dust for over 60 years, and my mom gave it to me when my dad died. I've always had the idea of putting these unique photos on the web, but the 2007 WWII documentary by Ken Burns inspired me to get on with it. So here it is, 183 of his best photos from that album.
The photo album is hosted by google, and each photo has a caption from the back of each photo. Additionally, each photo links to a google map showing the location in Germany, Belgium or France where the photo was taken. Just click on the image or caption below to begin viewing of the photo album/u>.
