Losar Celebration In Paro

Losar is the Tibetan New Year Festival in March, around the full moon. After the archery competition was over, a Lama led the people in a particular ceremony where tsampa, barley flour, a staple of Tibetan/Bhutanese diet is thrown into the air.

People preparing to throw handfuls of tsampa into the air. The two little boys on the right are trying to figure out what the heck is going on.

After the tsampa ceremony was finished, the kids helped themselves to the leftover tsampa and an all out food war started. Jim McQuade, as you can see here, was a severely wounded casualty in the war.
