Many temples have displays and arrangements of tormas, which is a ritual cake
representing a deity. It is made of barley flour and ghee or yak butter. It is most often shaped like
a tapering cone. Standing about 6-8 inches high, the barley flour is moistened and rolled into
its form, and the butter is immersed in cold water to stiffen it, then formed into petals which
decorate it. However, I was told that some of these were made of plastic.
