Phil's Mondo India Slide Show
Sights of Mahabalipuram

Someone saw white boy and insisted on showing me his cobra. The markings look like an upside down headset. He also showed me his mongoose which tore of the head of a garter snake in lightning quick fashion, which I really did not want to see, and I walked away annoyed, giving him no money.

Mahabalipuram is famous for its 'Shore Temple' seen here, constructed in the 7th century and only a few yards from the water's edge. It is dedicated to Shiva and Vishnu, and has a huge reclining Vishnu s sculpture inside.

I was told that there were several other shore temples, but they were washed away into the ocean over the centuries. Shoulda paid heed to Jesus's advice to build one's church on rock, not sand.
